   Freeman Dyson died this year.
                                                 DYSON

I noted back in the late 90s that BIBLES
the kids seemed to have already
forgotten about Freeman Dyson, as CERTAINTY
the nerds moved on to an obsession
   with software. DIRAC_TRUTH

Slashdot never ran a single MULTIPLICITY
     Dyson link I handed them
     during the years he was
writing for the New York DYSON_LULLABY
     Review of Books.

                       Freeman Dyson's name
                       comes up throughout THE_HERETIC
                       these pages...

                           THE_SCIENCE_CONSPIRACY But even so, I could've
                                                       said *more* about him, I
              UNTHINKABLE think, but his major
                                                       popular works date back
               WHOLE_IN_ONE to the pre-doomfiles
                                                       era, and I haven't had
                                                       copies of them at hand
                                                       to refer to.
Freeman Dyson might be regarded as a kind of
   scenester-of-the-sciences, a person who
banged around in different directions over
the years with an unconventional career
   that achieved some notable successes.

He's one of my prime examples of someone who didn't earn
a degree in his field who is nevertheless worth taking seriously:
