DESCENDANTS_OF_THE_SUN

                                             June 28, 2018

Watching "Descendents of the Sun", I wasn't conscious of liking
it all that much-- it was clearly watchable, and engaging
enough, but if you'd talk to me about it I would've done my
usual negative complaining about plausibility and pacing--

And yet, here I find myself at the close of the series missing
my old friends on screen and describing scenes from it to my
actual friends and having some odd dreams that appear to be
influenced by it...

The dream revolved around macho military culture
(one of the threads of this show):

I was trying to apply for membership to a group and
being subjected to something like a hazing ritual where
the group acts hostile to you, interrogating you about
your motives, while one of them was pointing some heavy
artillery at me-- I got the sense later that that was a
bit of improv the rest of them didn't approve of.

Immediately after this was over, I was considering
pretending I didn't understand the "joke" and gunning
        them all down in "self-defense"--

Then the leader of the group is called off the scene
for what seems like some other weird hazing by someone
else, and I'm left alone and ignored by everyone.

I start poking around the office learning a little
about what they're doing-- I haven't received any
training at all yet-- and worrying that they're going
to regard this as some sort of intrusive spying. And
wondering exactly why I want to be in this group.
