THE_QUEER_WAVE

                                             April 13, 2018

I submit that we could look at the rapid
change in status of the queer male, and
    use that as a model.

This change in status involved much
    political campaigning... but it also
    involved a long, relatively quiescent
period where queer men were frequently
invoked as comic figures. But comic
figures are not *scarey*, and this
actually undercut a lot of the
prejudice against them (or so it seems
    to me).

The point here is that finger-waggling
about how demeaning it is to regard a queer GROOVEN_IMAGES
man as a mere comic figure, in retrospect,
    looks remarkably besides-the-point.

A more relaxed approach with less moralistic
lecturing might actually be a good thing.

Is that a common pattern in social movements?

      (1) push hard
      (2) relax, let the backlash subside
      (3) then nudge, gradually
