I'm hardly the first person to notice that
these folks (Brits, of course) have issues:

Every now and then I wonder about things like
that bad sex writing award (whatever it's
called), where some sex scene is quoted The "out-of-context"
out-of-context from some novel, and held up bit is key in a few
as an example of badly embarassing writing. ways:

Similarly, it occurs to me I'm seen many a cheap
shot at ESR-- Eric S Raymond-- over the years that

Now ESR is not one of my favorite folks
and he deserves many a cheap-shot, but this I got in on the ground
isn't anywhere near one of his worst pieces. floor, picking over ESR's
stuff back in 2003 or so:
I would say his most embarassing moment
is a different autobiographical piece RAYMONDS_FOLLY
where he talked about being invited to a
country in South America as an open FISKING
source business pundit. He smuggled a
hand-gun with him as some sort of
libertarian protest (and belatedly
realizes he could've got him some serious
jail time for this-- that's supposed to
be a humorous point...).
He then starts chatting with a
pretty woman-- who appears to be a
hired babe, the kind of employee
rich guys keep around to mess with
the heads of male vistors-- and he
goes off fantasizing about some sort
of alternate reality where the two
of them had a thing going on.
There is indeed something dorky about this guy
offering up himself as a sexual expert, but
what the hell. Does he know anything or not?
If you don't need to read his advice, then don't.
