It's often seemed to me that the reputations of light
fiction and the heavier variety are inverted from their       (Posted before,

much you can actually *do* with the material, it
leaves you pondering weighty matters with a sense of
virtue without leading to any conclusion about
courses of action.

On the other hand "escape" fiction can leave you
energized, it encourages engagement with the world.



    By reputation:
    Light fiction: LOL, nothing matters.
    Heavy fiction: Deep insight.  Now I see how to live.

    In actuality:
    Heavy fiction: Sigh, nothing matters.
    Light fiction: Heh, let's do something, see what happens.
