POTENTIAL_DIFFERENCE

Unlike many of my fellow
hipster music snobs, I often
like international music with       ETHNICALLY_AUTHENTIC
Western influences.
                                    VIETNAMESE_MUSIC
But it is possible to turn up
the dial on Western too high for
my tastes.  At some point, the
distinction between the two
cultures is lost, and instead of
a hybrid you have yet another
example of the overdone and
overfamiliar.

   The difference between
   two cultures can be a source
   of energy, it opens the door
   to a hybridization, a chance
   at something new that's not
   present in the pure
   ethnic or national styles.

   When the connections are all
   wide open, there's a risk that        CONTROL
   all of the cultures will run                         CONNECTIVITY
   together and fuse into a                 URB
   single global culture.

   A heat-death of art.

                                    Conversely... any culturual
                                    difference, any sub-division,
                                    any case of factionalism might
                                    be looked on as an opportunity.
