AOC and fellow members of "the squad" went after
some of the US funding for the Israeli "Iron Dome" project.
She later switched her "No" vote to a whaffling "Present",
visibly crying, while being comforted by Barbara Lee.
She posted a long letter afterwards, which did not
really explain any of this behavior.
The left-wing commentary on this is very
unhappy. They claim to find it very baffling.
(Right-wing commentary lives up
to the high standard they've set And by the way, have you heard
for themselves in recent years: that if you're critical of
"Crocodile tears!", "Drama queen!") Israeli's military actions--
and think the US should stop
funding them-- you are
obviously antisemitic?
There's been a pattern
of trotting out the same
old shit of late, and
not just on the Israel
issue... either the bad
guys are dispirited and
lazy, or their polling
data shows there's no
bullshit like old bullshit.
I am here to explain to you what is
obviously going on with this, albiet Particularly egregious are
without any supporting evidence: the attempts at smearing
the Islamic members of the
Ocasio-Cortez (and family, and squad as antisemitic.
friends) were credibly threatened by
a pro-Israel faction, e.g. Mossad (or Ilhan Omar
someone who did a good job of acting Rashida Tlaib
like they were something like Mossad).
Working an ethnic
She hasn't come out and said it, but stereotype when
there are phrases that she keeps you want to accuse
interjecting that strongly suggest the other guys of
what's on her mind: "death threats", prejudice...
"dangerous vitriol", "hateful
targeting", "real sense of panic"...
I think AOC is pretty upfront about what kind of
person she is: she's genuinely idealistic and
committed to the stances she's adopted, she's
uninterested in money, and nearly incorruptible.
She's not easy to pressure in any way--
Except that-- as I think we've learned from
the January 6th events-- she's somewhat
fragile concerning physical threats.
I have no way of knowing, of course, if
there's been a broad threat like this to
family and friends, but it's a common
enough tactic among authoritatian
regimes... I would go as far as to say
that going after family has been standard
proceedure since recorded history began.
The trick would be getting the message to
her without it getting lost in the spew from
the usual crazies, but I imagine that's a
solvable problem if you've got the resources
of the Israel government behind you.
And another bit of standard proceedure is to threaten
retaliation if you tell anyone about the threat.
So there are two possible explanations for why AOC's
explanations are oddly muted:
(1) she's complying with the precise
demands made on her.
(2) she's gambled on reporting this to some
investigation agency, and is keeping
quiet while they work.
(Or while they say
they're working.)
There you go. You heard it here first, or you
would have if anyone read this stuff.
And you haven't heard any suggestions like this
anywhere else, it's because no one Serious (not even
the Cenk Unger/Krystal Ball level of Serious) wants to
sound like one-of-them crazy "conspiracy theorists".
Which is, of course, the way
the real conspiracy likes it.
