Time is limited. Yes, learning stuff is
great, "growing" is great, but learning
      everything is literally impossible. You
can't be a master of every language,
every OS, every software library. How
do you make your choices? How are you
going to decide what to learn next?

You need some intellectual shortcuts to
make these decisions, you've got to
evaluate reputations, based on rants and
      rumors filtered through your own
      attitudes, your previous experiences and
the things that you're familiar with
      already.

This is what "ideology" is really about,
in my opinion: not religion for religion's
sake, but a set of shortcuts to speed
      decision making.
