Could use NEWFOLKS as an
example of something I think
about some times:

I sometimes run into people who
think I'm "on the cutting edge"
(or something) in my musical
taste; but to me it always
seems like I'm mildly out of
it, just playing catch-up.

I could try to go:

  Hey man, I was into Suzanne Vega
  back at the *beginning*!
  I was listening to her right after
  her first album, I didn't have to
  wait for "Luka".

On the other hand:

  I didn't know jack about
  her until I read about
  her in some place no more
  underground than "The
  Village Voice".


  I was only an hour or two from Manhattan by
  train.  Why did I have to wait for her album
  release to check her out?  Why did I have
  to wait for her to tour and come out
  to Stony Brook?
