DERIVATIVE

Dr. Kelp complained about
bands that are hypersensitive

   She states flatly:

   "Music is derivative."

   And adds:

  "Embrace the fact that your
   band sounds like another band."


      But really, not *all* music is derivative,
      some music really isn't but you're unlikely to
      get what's good about it for another ten years
      or so, at which point you may find yourself
      competing to brag about figuring it out a few
      years ahead of all those other poseurs.

      Or, as is not that unusual, it
      may never catch on, it may remain              IMP_PERVERSE
      the preserve of a very small, but
      devoted sub-culture.

      Or, it may even never do anything for any
      particular subgroup or individual, perhaps
      not even the ones who invented it.

      Music that avoids being derivative
      can still suck, it may just suck its
      own special unique way.

          There may not even be any particular
          virtue to not being derivative...
