The central theme of Auerbach's book "Bitwise"
can be broken down to three points:

  (1) Computers like neat categories.

  (2) Categories are always flawed,
      particularly where human beings
      are concerned.

  (3) A computerized society encourages
us to see each other as
      members of these categories,
      exacerbating their flaws.
