Here and there, in "Bitwise: A Life in Code",
David Auerbach does some impressive musical
name-dropping:

    "When I was twenty-six years old and on vacation by myself
    in New York City ...  I had spend the evening first at an
    Evan Parker concert uptown, then at a Kieth Rowe and
    Toshimaru Nakamura concert downtown. ... "

    He goes on the mention the Tonic, calling it "much missed".





        "Whatever it was that caused Facebook
        to decide I had an African-American
        'ethnic affinity' (was it my Sun Ra                       (Feb 19, 2022)
        records?), it's not anything that
        would clearly cause a human to decide      It's funny that Auerbach, in
        that I have such an affinity"              a book about the problems of
                                                   living with categorization
                                                   systems, doesn't mention the
           Oh, he's a Sun Ra fan.                  problems of categorizing
                                                   music-- the silly limitation
           I take it all back, Auerbach            of the mp3 files ID3
           is okay by me.                          metadata, the relative
                                                   success of automated
                                                   recommendation systems...
