The voice of my tribe.

Well, the voice of one of my tribes.

Beth Lisick
"Everybody Into
the Pool" (2005) NAUGHT_SEVEN

     A funny book about
     the boho artist
life, lacking any From my point of view, the
shred of the usual chapter "The One" was the
     pretensions. funniest, because I was
                            already familiar with the
                            subject...

                            She talks about meeting the
man who turns out to be the
                            love-of-her-life, but for me Specifically,
he was "that guy who used to "Eli", or
work the door at Radio Valencia". "Eli Crews",
                                                                also one of
I had no idea that he the creative
                               actually lived at "The musicians
Sweat Shop"... and the about town.
                               place was evidentally
                               even grimier than I IMP_PERVERSE
                               thought.
                                                                He plays
                                                                guitar/bass...

                                                                Both he

                                                                flick:

                                                                "A Good Band
One of my favorite passages Is Easy to
     (from memory): Kill" (2005)

"It's not like I have anything
     against television. I even own
a TV, though I'm not sure where
it came from. It even gets
     decent reception if you stretch
     out the guitar string attached
to the back, and get the cat to
lie down on it, after rubbing him Compare the general theme here
with a baloon." "How is it possible for a
normal girl like me to be such
                                             a freak?" to Lisa Carver's
                                             more aggressively white trash
                                             background.

                                                Carver leans more
                                                heavily on the female
                                                degradation theme that
                                                I find so tiresome
                                                these days... It's the
                                                hipster equivalent of
                                                "dude, I was *so*
                                                drunk" stories, but
                                                they're supposed to
                                                seem edgey because
                                                they're about women.

                                                I have similar problems
                                                with Michelle Tea...
